The ancestors of Ohafia people were mighty warriors who fought and settled in different places before they arrived at the place known as Ohafia today.
This aspect of the Ohafia people's history remains inherent to the people's sense of identity. In other words, the performance of "War Dance" (Iri Agha) clarifies the warrior tradition of the Ohafia people.
Ohafia War Dance is performed by a group of men who dance to display their muscles in winning wars in the past. It is also a celebration and practice of beheading a fallen enemy. A human head was a proof of strength and courage in the ancient Ohafia.
KALU
Kalu, a household name in Ohafia. One could rarely see a family without a touch of Kalu. It could be a family name, middle or first name. But only the male bear it as first name.
The origin of the name is traced to the ancestors of Ohafia.
There was an ancient oracle of the Ohafia people known as KAMALU, the god of thunder. One can still find the shrine of Kamalu in present day Idima Abam. This is because the founder of Abam is Known as ONYERUBI, an elder brother to the founder of Ohafia named UDUMAEZE.
KAMALU protected the Ohafia people against external forces and administered justice within the people. It was used to find truth and so much relied on during wars.
Therefore, men who were very brave were compared with KAMALU. They were men who never come home from a war without the head of an enemy. Later, it was given as a title.
However, the name was lastly shortened to KALU and given as first name to some brave men.It kept on spreading through Ohafia naming system till date.
